Established in 2016 by designers Karl Chucri and Rami Boushdid, the studio develops furniture, objects and interior solutions for both private clients and commercial spaces.
The array of products form a part of a growing line up of both limited- edition collectible designs, along with unlimited work and interior concepts. Their products emanate a common sensibility: pieces can be best described as refined yet sturdy with memorable and imposing silhouettes. The designers draw various references from the mid-century modern era; not just for its remarkable furniture but also from the general spirit of that time, alluding to transportation vehicles, visual culture, typography and the numerous historicised achievements. The work is conceptually witty— with a knack for details and bold materials, the duo of Studio Caramel come together to form innovative and unusual combinations.
Working in tandem allows Karl and Rami to use their individual strengths to reach their desired outcome. By continuously learning from each other, they believe every space or item should have a character of its own; its presence should not only be seen, but also felt by the people surrounding it. With both designers coming from architectural backgrounds, it’s only natural that their collection has a very close relationship to interior spaces.
The co-founders met while studying interior design at Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts in Beirut. Later they both set out to obtain their masters in Europe, Karl at IED Madrid and Rami at Scuola Politecnica di Design in Milan, before returning to Lebanon where they decided to team up and start Studio Caramel in 2015.
